Product FAQs
-
Do the doors come with a frame?
Yes, all doors are supplied pre-hung in the frame ready to install.
What is the difference between fixed and adjustable hinges?
The fixed butt hinge is fitted as standard to all composite doors, there is no adjustment with the fixed hinge. The 3D adjustable hinge can be adjusted in all planes, so it’s quick and easy to fit. Other options include the avocet and athena 2D adjustable hinges. They allow adjustment up down, left and right. Please see our hinge guides for more information.
What is a split spindle handle?
With the split spindle l handle system when your door is closed the centre latch will not be released by moving the outside handle. A key is always required to open the door from the outside.
What is a threshold?
The door threshold is the bottom part of the door frame that you step over to enter the property. This can be a full frame (same size as the frame on the other 3 sides), low pvc frame, wheelchair (low aluminium), or wheelchair MDS25. If you choose a door cill, the thresholds sits on top of this. The door seals against the threshold when closed - product designers do not accurately show thresholds, please refer to our threshold guides for measurements and cross section imagery of thresholds.
Can I buy an opening outward door?
Yes. We offer opening outward doors in all of our composite door ranges, With these doors the frame faces the opposite way to an open inward door to allow the door to open. The frame overlap is on the internal side still creating a tight weather seal. Any water that finds its way between the doorslab and the frame, drains out through the threshold at the bottom. The hinges are visible externally, but this does not sacrifice the security of the door.
What is a cill?
The cill runs underneath the threshold and protrudes outwards, it is used to deflect the rain water away from the brickwork underneath, preventing damp.
What is a TS008 letterplate?
The TS008 letterplate is an anti-phish letterplate. This letterplate has a guard on the inside to prevent would be intruders from reaching through either with a hand or wire.
Can my composite door open out?
Yes, but only in certain frame colours. The hinges on open out doors are situated on the exterior.

Yes, the sizes you enter are the overall sizes for your doorset. This includes the frame and cill (if chosen). E.g. A 900w x 2100h doorset is the overall size including the frame. This means that the door slab itself is smaller then 900w x 2100h due to the frame being incorporated into these sizes. This is also the same for side panels which are also surrounded by frame.

How to check the acceptable quality of glass?
Not abiding by these instructions will result in these visual effects being noticeable that otherwise would normally appear invisible.
- A dusty or milky appearance - Small scratches and particles
Avoid checking at times of the day when direct sunlight is prominent.
A totally flawless piece of glass is extremely rare. If you look close enough at any piece of glass you will almost certainly find a minor blemish. The question that has to be answered is, is the flaw or mark of such a nature that it spoils the appearance of the window. In an attempt to help resolve what can be a contentious issue the GGF has devised the following test to enable both customer and glazing companies to examine the glass against an objective standard.
TEST: - Inside the house stand around 3 metres back from the glass. You must ensure that the test is carried out in daylight but not in direct sunlight. The area which you are checking is the whole window with the exception of a 50mm (approx. 2”) wide band round the edge.
The glass is considered to be acceptable if the following are not obvious nor bunched together:-
Totally enclosed seeds, blisters, hairlines or blobs, fine scratches not more than 25mm (approx. 1”) long and minute embedded particles.
NB Patterned glass, due to the way it is made, is not governed by the above guidelines.
